Etymology

Possibly, as Ekwall suggests, 'the edge of a hill with a cowshed', v. báss , brúin 2 , but on topographical grounds this seems less likely than an inversion compound of báss and the ON  pers.n. Brúni , 'Brúni's cowshed'.
