Etymology

The first el. is the OG  pers.n. Odelin or the fem. Odelina , recorded in independent use in England from the time of DB (cf. Björkman, NP 103 note 2, Reaney 234 s.n. Odlin , Forssner 195). The two earliest spellings may be read as Odeli (e )ne -, v. dæl 'valley'.
