v. King's Meaburn (ii, 141supra ). The feudal affix is from Maud (ME  Mahald , Maid ), wife of William de Veteriponte, who granted the estate to her c. 1174 (1294) Ch ii, 450. The various forms of the affix are ME  derivatives of Matilda .
