Church Brough, 1672 NWm 103, 1681, 1704 PR, 1823 M, Nether Brough , commonly called Kirk-brough 1657 CliffordL 77, Kirk Brough 1682Hothf (Br 6), and also Church Towne 1679 PR; this part of Brough was so called from the parish church of St Michael (ecclesie de Burgo 1198 P, 'the church of Burgo ' 1244 Pat, etc.).v. kirkja and for town 'part of a village', cf. Church Town (i, 81supra ).
