Etymology

Lindley (lost), Linleia c. 1150Bodl 4, c. 1154 YCh 1559 (essartum ), 1166, 1174 Kirkst, Linley Nooke 1612 Surv 418. 'Flax clearing', v. līn , lēah . The site of the place appears to have been near Burley (Kirkst 59) on the borders of Woodhouse in Leeds (Surv 418); the fields called Far Lindley , Middle Lindley & Near Lindley (TA 203, numbers 646, 674, 677, 742) are in Kirkstall village (96–265354).
