Etymology

Stanaber, Stainber (? for Staniber ) 13 Font, Stanabarside , Stanabarclose 1652YAS Dd 104, Stanabarclosses 1679Dep , Stainabers 1679 ib. 'Rock(y) hill', v. steinn , stānig , beorg . But in this and some other names in the parish medial -a - may be a reduced form of ON  haugr 'hill, mound' as in the spellings of Arcow infra .
