Etymology

Hillgrim (lost), super Hillegrime 13 Percy, Illegrim 13Sawl 105, Illgryme 1580Skp 24, Hill Grime 1845TA . Possibly 'Grim's hill', from hyll and the ON  pers.n. Grímr with the order of the els. reversed through Irish-Norwegian influence (cf. Introd.). It may, however, be a compound of hyll and ON  gríma 'boundary mark' as in Fore Grums f.n. 156 infra . The location is fixed by the TA map (field no. 430) near Anley Crag (grid 90–815621).
