Etymology

'Fech's shieling', v. erg . The pers.n. Fech is from OIr  Fíach (as in Fixby iii, 35supra ); it occurs independently in DB as Fech and Feg , the names of pre-Conquest landowners, one in the adjacent township of Giggleswick and the other in Langcliffe near Giggleswick. The two names may well refer to the same man from whom Feizor may be named. Cf. Introd. On the development of the p.n. cf. Phonol. § 44.
