Etymology

'Biarni's fortification', v. burh and cf. Introd. On the ODan  pers.n. Biarni and the forms of Barnburgh v. Barnby Dun 17supra .In the spellings Barm (e )-, Bam -, -n - is assimilated to -m - by the following -b -. In the affixes dun is clearly an error for R. Dearne.
