Etymology

'Willow-fry,' wilig, by . For the spelling byg cf. Cleaxbyg for Claxby (L), ASWills xxxix. “Bye in the old English signifying a Village, as we use it in some sense to this day, calling those orders which are made in a Court-Baron Bye Laws , id est the Town-Laws” (Dugdale 189).
