Etymology

'Wærma 's farm,' v. ingtun . Wǣrma would be a pet-form of one of the numerous OE  pers. names in Wǣr -, such as Wǣmund .“I presume that its denomination originally sprung from some antient possessor thereof in the Saxons time; perhaps Weremundus , for that appellation was then usuall” (Dugdale 416).It may be that the DB form is already contracted from earlier Wærmundingtun , cf. the history of Alveston supra 231.
