Etymology

The first element may be the OE  hǣðiht , 'heathy.' Cf. (in ) hæthihtan leahge (BCS 219) in the bounds of Wick (Wo) and Heatley in Abbots Bromley (St)Haitele 1333 SR. The second element is uncertain, the early forms fluctuating between leah and healh . For a similar compound cf. Saltley supra 32.
