Etymology

Shutwell Fm is Schetewellwey , Schitewellemor 1348, Schetewellewey 1356, Shitewelle c. 1400Spencer , Shitleway c. 1550 ib., Shuttle House 1821 G. A small stream rises here and the first element is no doubt the OE  scite , 'dung,' which Ekwall (RN 364) finds in Skidbrook (L) and other names. Cf. also Shatterford (PN Wo 32). The second element is wielle , 'spring, source.'
