Etymology

The first element in this name is the pers. name Mac (c )a found in Mackney (Berks), Maccanig BCS 988, Mackworth (PN Db 163) and Mackadown supra 48. It is identical with OE  maca , 'comrade.' For Leighton v. leactun and cf. Wormleighton infra 275.
