Etymology

v. heordewic . The reason for the additional prefix Kites is uncertain. It does not seem to be a manorial addition, since no family of the name appears in records in connection with the place. Possibly kites were frequently seen near or regularly nested in the vicinity. Cf. Kyte Hardwick in Tysoe infra 285 and possibly Puddock Hardwick (PN BedsHu 258–9). No trace of a Grombold or Grymbold family can be found in connection with this place. There was a family of Grimbald in Arrow (1229 FF, 1327, 1332 SR).
