Etymology

'Valley brook,' v. cumb . The reference is to the stream which flows down the combe of Compton Vemey and passes the village of Combroke. Cf. Combourne (PN K 309) for a similar compound with burna . “Lying neer unto a narrow and deep valley” (Dugdale 433).
