The Asps is Espes 1194 Cur, 1196 P, 1306Ass (p), Aspes 1195 Pet freq to 1316 FA, Nappes , Naspes 1289Ass , Le Aspes juxta Warrewyke 1313FF , Naspes al. Aspes 1425WaDeed , Naspes 1656 Dugdale. 'Aspen trees,' v. æt , æps . The n in some late forms is due to mistaken division of the ME  atten aspes , 'at the aspens.'
