Etymology

'Bæll 's corner or angle of land,' v. healh . The place was a chapelry of Hampton in Arden till 1863 and formed the southeastern angle of that parish. For the pers. name cf. bælles weg (BCS 814), Balsham (PN C 20), Balscote (PN O 46), Balsdon in Whitstone (Co), Bellesdone 1086 DB, Ballesdon 1327SR .
