Etymology

'Æsc 's hill or spur of land,' v. hoh . There is a steep hill here and a typical 'hoe.' This is probably referred to in a deed of 1248 (AD i) which speaks of “land in le ho. ” We also have la How mede , Homedwe (ib.). For the DB form cf. s. n. Keysoe (PN BedsHu 14–15).
