Etymology

Waller Fen (TA ) is Walowffen 1480Ct , taking name from Waldelowe 1320–1 ib. (surviving in Waddelows Hill (TA ) in Wentworth), i.e. 'fen by Wold -hill,' v. Wold infra 246. So also in Sutton we have Waldhethe , Waldweye , Waldwere 13thElyM , 1294ElyCh , 1330Ct and Heghwolde 1399 ib., the Weeles 1610SewersD . v. hȳð , hēah , wēr .
