Etymology

This name is difficult to interpret as the early forms are few and all come from documents much affected by French influence. Possibly it is an ing -formation from a pers. name Rymic , a diminutive derivative of an OE  name Rūm such as lies behind Romsey (Ha), Rummæsige KCD 721, Rumesige c. 1000 Saints, ASCs. a. 971. Hence, 'people of Rȳmic .'
