Etymology

'The people of Teorra,' cf. Tarring supra 194 and Ekwall, PN in -ing 63. The names seem ultimately to be of the same origin but in spelling they were as a rule distinguished in medieval times. The family of Nevile is first mentioned in connexion with the place in 1253 (Ipm).
