Etymology

Freeland (6″) gave name to Richard de la Frylonde (1296 SR) and Roger Frylond (1340 NI). In 1641 (SRS 14, 206) it is referred to as Freeland al. Threeles land . The last form is obscure. The land was doubtless 'free' from certain dues or obligations.
