Etymology

'The ham of Sidel.' The pers. name Sīdel is not on record but would be a regular diminutive formation from a , pers. name Sīd (a ) (not recorded), a pet-form of one of the somewhat late and not very well attested Sīde -names in Old English (v. Searle).
