Etymology

Oakhurst Fm appears first as Okehurst , Ockehurst in 1537 (BM), Hocus (sic) in 1795 (GY). As one John Ochurst held a hide of land in Hamme , c. 1380 (LibC 103d), the name is probably manorial rather than topographical in origin (W.D.P.).
