Etymology

Honeypools Fm (6″) is Hunypoute (1308 SAC 9, 256), Honypottes (1549 Pat), Honypooles otherwise Honeypottes (1576 SRS 3, 109). The meaning of the name is obscure, but Miss Holgate notes the Sussex phrase (SAC 19, 160) 'a regular honey-pot lane,' used of a muddy one, and possibly Honeypots was applied to the locality in this sense.
