Etymology

This shows a strong form of the pers. name discussed under Crottebergh supra 361, hence, 'Crott 's clearing,' v. leah . A manor in Hollington and other parishes, the fee of which was held by the burgesses of Hastings (AD v). Two fees had been swallowed up by the sea in 1320 (Misc).
