Historical Forms

Etymology

Cornhill was clearly the home of Peter de Cornhelle (1332 SR).In 1327 (SR) he is called Peter de Crouhelle , an error of transcription for Cronhelle . Corn (e )hill passim in Ct Rolls . The forms are interesting as a clear example of the metathesis of cron to corn in names containing the name of the crane or heron, and help to remove the doubts raised s. v. corn in EPN.
