Etymology

Spar Wood (6″) is Sparrewood in 1618 (SRS 14, 106) and is probably to be associated with John atte Sparre (1296 SR).Spurland (6″) is Sperlond in 1375 IpmR, Sperland 1549 Pat.v. spær . The same spær or enclosure is probably referred to in both these names, since the places are near together.
