Parbrook

Historical Forms

  • Perregate 1195 France

Etymology

Parbrook is so spelt in 1740 (O). The forms are too late for the meaning of the first element to be determined with any certainty. Possibly Par - had the same history as in Parham infra 152, in which case the sense was 'pear-tree meadow.'This suggestion is strengthened by the fact that in the neighbourhood there was a Perregate (1195 France), v. Tisserand infra .
