Etymology

Plashet (lost) is Plashet c. 1680 SAC xxxi, and was the home of Robert ate Plessette (1332 SR) and Thomas atte Plasshete de Wodeton (1382Ass ), atte Plasshette (1385Ct ). This is probably the same name as Plashett (PN Sx 356, 500), and goes back to LL  plassetum , plessetum , 'sylvula seu parcus undique clausus.'Cf. further the places mentioned s. n. Fletchinghurst supra 271, for which we have early forms direct from LL , such as Plesseto , Placeto , and also forms such as Plescis , deriving from the French descendant of that Late Latin word. Cf. s. n. plessis in Longnon, Les noms de lieu de la France 2292–6. It is difficult to keep this word distinct from plashet , 'little marshy pool' (NED s. v .).
