Etymology

Goster Wood (6″) is Gosestrod 1259Ass , Gostrode 1332 SR (both p), Gostrode in Wodeton 1338 Ipm, Gostroud 1596 Musters, Gostwode , Gostrowd al. Gosterwood 1699Recov . 'Marshy place where geese feed,' v. strod . The name is identical with Gostrode supra 189, the modern form being corrupt.
