Etymology

v. leah . The first element is OE  wisc, 'damp meadow, marsh.'The place lies low by the Wey and the surrounding meadows are liable to floods in wet seasons. Cf. Whistley (Berks)æt Uuiscelea 968 (BCS 1226).
