Etymology

Wisley Pond. The original pond, Wistley Ponds 1749 B, Wisley Ponds 1765 R, was filled up c. 1800. Its site is marked by Old Pond Ho (6″). The present Wisley Pond is in Ockham parish and is Bolder Mere (6″). Bashall spells the name Boulder Mere and suggests that it was so called from some large stone which once existed near The Hyde infra 160. Cf. also Bolder Field in Send (TA ).The old pond covered about 50 acres and was drained and made into a farm by Lord King (M and B iii, 116).
