Etymology

Lollesworth Fm (6″) is Lolleworth (e )1272Ass , c. 1280Ct , 14thAD , 1319 Pat, 1332 SR (all p), Loseworth 1823 Br. 'Lolla 's or Lulla 's farm,' v. worþ . The 1″ map spells this name Loosley, which may be a corruption, though it may in part represent the local pronunciation [luˑzeθ]. Strangely enough, not many miles away there was once a Lolleworth (t. Ric 1 Chertsey) in Chertsey, Lowleth in TA (v. Field-names infra 381). As all the forms for Lollesworth are derived from personal names, the name may be manorial in origin, the holder having come from Lowleth.
