Etymology

Cotterell's Fm is Westcotell '1521Ct , Cottles in Shere 1599 SrWills, Cottells 1677Rental , and was the home of Stephen de Cothulle (1279Ass ), Richard de Cothull (1377Rental ) and William Cotehull (1413Ct ). The name is probably of local origin, a compound of cot(e) and hyll , referring to a hill marked by a cote. The additional syllable in the modern name seems to be a mere corruption.
