Etymology

West Chart (6″) is le Churt (e )1368Rental , le Chert 1521Ct , 1548LRMB , in bosco voc. le Churte 1546Ct , Chart Wood t. Jas 1Ct , Westchurte 1647Rental , the Chert 1667 ib., and was the home of John ate Chert (1332 SR). 'West' as opposed to a lost East Chirt (1331 Cl). We are on the sandstone here, v. Churt supra 178 and Hurt Wood infra 250.
