Etymology

Ekwall (PN in -ing 53) suggested, without any form beyond the charter one before him, that this was probably a patronymic from OE  *Binta , corresponding to OHG  Binzo , Binizo . This suggestion is confirmed by the minor name Bynterugge (1382MinAcct ) found in Seale, and by the p.n. Bentworth (Ha) not far away, Bintewurða 1166 P, Binteorda t. Ric 1 (1324) Ch.
