Etymology

Great House Fm is identical with the place called Smalebrede 1208FF (p), t. Ed 3Loseley , Smallbredd 1632, Great , Lesser Smalbred 1650Harl . This would appear to be a compound of OE  smæl, 'narrow, small,' and brǣdu , 'breadth,' as found in Shulbrede (PN Sx 25).
