Etymology

Howell Hill (6″) is Hawelle 1201 Cur (p), Howelle t. Hy 3 AD i, 1317 AD i, Howellefurlong 1400 ib., Upperhowelle , Underhowelle 1442 ib., Underhowelle 1513 ib. Probably 'spring on the spur of land,' v. hoh , wielle . There is a well-marked ridge of land here, near which a well is marked.
