The Clouse
Early-attested site in the Parish of Capel
Historical Forms
- atte Clause 1332 SR
Etymology
The Clouse (old 6″) was probably the home of Henry atte Clause (1332 SR). The Clouse was the name of a three-sided projection on the eastern border of Capel. It would seem that we have here an unrecorded use of clause to denote an enclosed space of some kind.
