Etymology

Denmark Hill is so named in 1823 (Br). It is said to have been so called from a residence of Prince George of Denmark , husband of Queen Anne, who came here for hunting (VCH iv, 25).Denmark Hill is comparatively high ground just to the south of the old village of Camberwell, and may be the Camerwell Hyll of 1542 (LP).
