Etymology

Winters Hall is Wintershill 1235Ass , Wintershull ib., Wynter(e)shull (e )1258 FF, 1263Ass , Wyntreshull (e )1313 Ipm, 1316 ib., 1335Ass , Wyntersulle 1332 SR (all p). For this name cf. Wintersells Fm supra 105. The index to the Charter Rolls suggests that the Winteresell granted to Henry de Winteresell (s. a. 1227) is Winters Hall in Bramley, but there is no evidence as to where the place is, and, in the absence of further evidence, we may take that reference to be to Wintersells itself.
