Etymology

The first element is probably identical with that of Hednesford (St), which Ekwall (Studies 9) takes to be a pers. name Heddin , a derivative of OE  Hæddi , Headda . Cf. Pachesham supra 80.In later times the name was mistakenly thought to contain the adjective high , whence High Nuscombe , Nescombe , and so by popular etymology Nurscombe .
