Etymology

Sherbourne Fm is on the stream called Shirbourne 1464 BM, Shyreburne 1492Ct . 'Clear stream,' v. scir , burna . The name refers to the little brook which flows from the 'Silent Pool' to join the Tillingbourne.

Silent Pool (6″) is Shirburn Spring 1719 Aubrey, Shireburn Ponds (M and B ii, 126).
