Etymology

'The west farmstead', v. west , tūn . The parish is in the western portion of the hundred, and lies NE of Lizard Hill in Sa which overlooks it. Sir Hugh de Weston who died 1305 accounts for the emergence of the distinctive addition of 'Hugh's' in the 14th, the final topographical appellative only later gaining acceptance.
