Etymology

Perhaps 'the woodland glade of Tydi ', v. lēah , as suggested by Ekwall (DEPN). It was formally a division of the Forest of Cannock and later became a civil parish. For the purposes of tithe it was part of the parish of Penkridge and is described as 'extraparochial' in 1817.
