Etymology

'The ford of Heddīn ', v. ford . The OE  Heddīn would be a diminutive form of Headda . The forms are somewhat comparable to those occurring in Hensall YW 219, but the total absence of forms with -th - militate against the name in question being the ON  pers.n. Heðinn which is of unlikely occurrence in this part of St.
