Etymology

The Cliffe(Le Clyf 1421–2, The Clyffe, Clyf Iron 1641, Cliffe Meadow 1652, 92, Cliffe Iron 1677, Clift Iron 1731: maps show twoareas of ground over 500', the Cliff fields are beside the northern one, which extendsinto Woore township: this presumably has a fairly steep edge(clif) and an angle(hyrne))
