Speatley(Sperteghe e.14th Wom, Speertley 1780,The Partley otherwise Spertley 1787: the e.14th form suggests a compound of ēg'raised ground in marsh' with the rare p.n. el. *spyrt, *spert, for which varioussuggested meanings are given in EPN: PN Ch 5.1348 notes a few Ch examples andgives'a spurt, a jet of liquid' as meaning: the Wom ref says “mora…super ripamde Tyrne”, but the 2 small fields in TA are a short distance from the river, next toMarsh ns.)
